Wireless Java Telephony Version 6 of Symbian OS provides the first implementation of JTAPI, the Java Telephony Application Programming Interface, for mobile phones. The API specification for this is published as part of the JavaPhone 1.0 Specification, and can be downloaded from Sun’s website. This provides most of the information you should need to make effective use of JTAPI on Symbian OS. However, some care should be taken as not all the functionality published there under the javax.telephony package and subsidiary packages is supported by Symbian OS, and you will encounter further limitations depending on the hardware configuration you are using, in particular how the telephony is provided
A Quick Look At JTAPI, Sun's Telephony Specification The JTAPI specification was debuted on October 1st, 1996 and the specification is in second revision. JTAPI's timing could not be more perfect as many MIS managers are beginning to develop global strategies for integrating computing and telecommunications resources. JTAPI is an application programming interface for computer telephony applications in the Java environment. JTAPI applications will be able to run on hardware/OS platforms containing a Java virtual machine and a JTAPI compliant telephony sub-system. The hope is that JTAPI interfaces will soon be available for TAPI, TSAPI, IBM CallPath and SunXLt. Sun has some simple goals for JTAPI and they are listed below.
Cisco JTAPI Installation and Configuration Cisco Java Telephony API (JTAPI) implementation comprises Java classes that reside on all client machines running Cisco JTAPI applications. Installation of the Cisco JTAPI implementation must take place before Cisco JTAPI applications will function correctly. Introduction to JTAPI By Cisco Systems. Java Telephony API (JTAPI) is a portable, object-oriented API for computer telephony integrated call control. JTAPI, the package of interfaces located in the javax.telephony.* hierarchy, defines a programming model by which java applications interact with telephony resources such as PBXs and telephones. The Cisco JTAPI implementation supports java application access to AVVID communication systems according to the JTAPI v 1.2 specification. Furthermore, Cisco JTAPI exposes Cisco specific events and methods for certain telephony resources such as calls and connections.
